Daveda Karanas

 
 

A winner of the 2008 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, American mezzo-soprano Daveda Karanas has been hailed for her “capacious power” and “a voice lustrous and exciting” (San Francisco Chronicle). Ms. Karanas is a recent graduate of San Francisco Opera Center’s Adler Fellowship Program.

For the 2009 - 2010 season, Ms. Karanas will perform in “A Concert of Signature Arias” with Arizona Opera along with Christine Brewer, Richard Margison, and Gordon Hawkins featuring arias and duets from Don Carlo, Macbeth, and Norma. She will sing performances of Waltraute and cover Fricka in San Francisco Opera’s Die Walküre conducted by Donald Runnicles.

For the 2010 - 2011 season, she will cover Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde with Seattle Opera. At San Francisco Opera, Ms. Karanas will sing Suzuki in Madama Butterfly and cover Amneris in Aïda, both under Nicola Luisotti.

In Francesca Zambello’s production of Wagner’s epic Der Ring des Nibelungen at San Francisco Opera in 2011, she will sing both Waltraute and 2nd Norn in the new production of Götterdämmerung, sing Waltraute and cover Fricka in Die Walküre, and cover Fricka in Das Rheingold, under the baton of Donald Runnicles.

Future seasons will see Ms. Karanas at the Canadian Opera Company, San Francisco Opera, Seattle Opera, and Vancouver Opera.
